Background
Create a service for school leavers to reduce the further education application pain points.
To personalise the enrolment process
To reduce learner stress
To improve the quality of data and decision making by all stakeholders
To increase money available for learning
From the learner perspective, we want to create a secure space where they can access and exploit their data, ensuring that it is secure and in their control.
From the provider perspective (The FE College), we want to streamline and personalise the enrolment process, reducing the time and resources needed to manage and verify their learners, and improve the data quality for downstream use.
Who are the users?
The users fall into two categories, learners and further education providers.
Who are the learners?
This is someone who’s doing/done their GCSEs and want to apply for FE (further education).
Examples of such learners:
Secondary students (year 12)
Individual doing an apprenticeship and wants to apply for a FE course
Learners already in FE/ doing an apprenticeship who want to apply for another course
Adult learners
For the pilot we concentrated only on school leavers
Learner problem statement
Students want more control over their applications. This means help and support filling the application, which includes having access to a device to be able to access the application.
Students want the start of their next step in education to be as smooth as possible, to allow them opportunity to focus my time and energy on their learning.
Students want their options to be kept as open as possible whilst they make a decision, and they need to spend most of their time learning about courses, rather than completing applications.
Students need the application for their new college to be clear and easy, so they can focus on preparing for a course that was not their first choice.
Students want to be able to focus on their studies, without having to spend time or energy organising support to ensure they get the same chance as their peers to succeed.

Providers include further education colleges, schools and independent (apprenticeship) training providers.
Provider problem statement
Providers need timely, reliable information to decide if the learner can be conditionally accepted to study at the college, use in the interview, allow tutors enough time to prepare personalised career advice and guidance and enrol learners in the right course.
Providers cannot get GCSE results on time, meaning they have to rely on students bringing the GCSE result slips to enrolment.
Providers need to obtain proof that the student is who they say they are, which includes proof of residency.

The Education pilot app was released in the Apple and Andriod app store in 2024. Three schools and three FE colleges in Oldham were invited to take part in the MVP. 800 year 11 pupils downloaded and set the app on their smart phones
